I will be mentored by Samuel Mehrbrodt, Thorsten Behrens, and Heiko Tietze. This time, I’ll be working on improvement and rework of Special Characters feature in LibreOffice and adding some enhancements to it.

Woah, Google Summer of Code with LibreOffice ( x2 ). It has been an awesome two-year journey with LibreOffice, and I hope it will remain the same in future and the open-source technologies will flourish with their full potential and thrive to its zenith. I would like to give my regards to the LibreOffice community which helped me through the deadlocks I faced during the project. I was mentored by Samuel Mehrbrodt, Heiko Tietze, and Thorsten Behrens in GSoC 2017. ‣ Unicode Character Names Integration using ICU ‣ Special Characters Toolbar Dropdown Control ‣ Favourites feature in Special characters ‣ Glyph View and Recent Characters Control in Special Characters dialog ‣ Context-menu and Mouse click controls for easier interaction The GIF below is an example of how easy a user can find the desired symbols and can pin it for quick access in future. It is supposed to replace the current toolbar button which opens the special character dialog in the currently circulated LibreOffice 5.3. In pursuance of providing quick access to the above Recent and Favorite character list, a toolbar dropdown control has been developed. ‣ Toolbar Dropdown control for Quick Access! ‣ Recently Used Characters and Favorite Characters ‣ Inter-font dynamic glyph searchĪs simple as it could be made, a user can now type the name of the glyph and scroll between fonts until the desired results are shown. There’s a display label which is dedicated to glyph’s Unicode name. The program identifies glyphs according to their names provided by ICU and then, the search results are displayed. Glyph name properties have been introduced to LibreOffice using the API provided by International Components for Unicode (ICU). What I'm now trying to add is to detect at the bottom level rendering level if text has a completely impossible language set and reject that language choice for the purposes of the last-ditch glyph fallback.‣ Search functionality via generic code point name

'If I start libreoffice in any Indic locale and try to write in different Indic scripts, rendering will not be correct for whole typed text.'įrom the word processors perspective you're writing text in the language set as the CTL language in format character. Yes, if you start in Assamese, then the default CTL language will be set to Assamese, which then selects the default font for Assamese to be 'Lohit Assamese' Libreoffice in Assamese desktop sets correctly fonts and renders Assamese fine.' '2) If I use same script and locale everything works fine. If that font then can't render it we should still be able to glyph fallback and get it rendered correctly. Then the default font is selected based on that language. What we do is select the default language for that category based on your locale, with a fallback to Hindi if there's no useful hint otherwise. I mean, launch writer, turn on CTL and look at 'format character'. It should not show 'Lohit Telugu', it should show what font the user selected as the font to use for the CTL category (or the computer-selected defaults). '1) The confusing part is font name still shows 'Lohit Devanagari', Can it be shown correctly to higher priority font? For Fedora it should show 'Lohit Telugu'' If typing in Telugu language, once you start typing font should get changed to 'Lohit Telugu'. Rendering should be correct and font should get automatically selected. If typing in Telugu language, once you start typing font should remains 'Liberation Sans'. Rendering is incorrect and font does not get set automatically. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): I think libreoffice( say writer) should detect the font automatically once I start typing in any language and set it to that language font. But, When I set the appropriate font for that Indic language it renders correctly. This happens with default Liberation Sans font. When a basic consonant is typed with dependent vowels then formed glyph with either upper base or below base renders incorrectly.
